Just over fifty Club members and their guests enjoyed a four course dinner with wines at the Club on Friday 29th April to celebrate the successful conclusion to the first full season of the Abu Dhabi Gents Cricket Club. David East and his wife Jeanette, the Chief Executive of cricket in the UAE were guests of the Club along with James Minns and his wife Greer the Club sponsor from de Vere.
The Chairman David Willis presented the Player of the Year Award to Amer Qureshi for his outstanding batting performances throughout the season. David went on to tell the audience that the Club had reserved the Emirates Palace cricket ground on nineteen Saturdays- all day- from October until April and that there would be more matches next year. The main priorities were to continue to seek out new cricketing talent in the emirate of Abu Dhabi and to find increasingly tough and demanding fixtures for the Club's First Xl who had beaten almost all the teams they had played in the past year. If Club members had suggestions for good opposition then they should get in touch with Simon or David.
The Club would commit to an Abu Dhabi Cricket Council Ramadan Tournament starting in mid May and to the newly launched Last Man Stands competition in Dubai. The Club was also considering taking part in the Union Bank tournament starting in January which would see ADGCC playing at the highest level in UAE recreational cricket.
The Chairman also remarked that during the coming year both he and Simon Walster would be looking to receive some admin support from Club members as an understanding of how the Club runs needs to be spread more widely. Some offers of help were immediately forthcoming.
Simon and David were presented with framed photographs of the Emirates Palace ground and some very nice wine a token of the members' appreciation of their efforts during the year.
